Question: To help decrease these violations, I would make sure that the entire staff from the providers, nurses, receptionists and all healthcare professionals that work in

  1. To help decrease these violations, I would make sure that the entire staff from the providers, nurses, receptionists and all healthcare professionals that work in this facility have mandatory HIPAA training. It is unacceptable to leave patient test results out in the open for anyone to look at, not locking or signing out of your work computer while leaving a patient alone to have access to it, and discussing PHI to coworkers or family members.
  2. In my personal experience while previously working in hospitals, I have not witnessed or overheard any incidents of PHI being exposed. If I did, then I would immediately stop what I was doing and report it to my supervisor and if they wasn't available then I would have went to the department head.
  3. In scene number 6 when the provider goes out to the waiting area to speak with the patient about test results and how he wants to proceed the next steps as far as admitted her to the hospital and asking what insurance she has, plus asking what her date of birth is while other patients are able to overhear the entire conversation. I feel as if the corrective action should have been termination and potential law suit. Revealing this patient and her condition to everyone around her and not taking the appropriate precautions by speaking with her in a private area is neglecting and being careless.
  4. 3. Reply Posts:Reply to two people on different days

To add to the academic conversation, reply to your classmates/instructor by introducing a new idea that applies personal experience(s) and/or new knowledge gained from either courseroom material(s) or research (UMA Library). Make sure your reply is substantive. For example, How were your thoughts and ideas similar or different? Do you agree or disagree with their point of view, and why or why not? Remember to build on your classmates' posts and expand the conversation as if you were all sitting in the same room having a face-to-face discussion.
