Tom owns Duke, a two-year-old, 145-pound Saint Bernard dog.  Tom lives with Duke in an apartment complex owned by Lenny the landlord.  On January 15, 2019, Tom took Duke for his nightly walk around the neighborhood.  On their way back into the apartment building, Tom and Duke saw Valerie, a ten-year-old girl who also lives in the apartment complex.  Valerie was making a snowman in the yard of the apartment complex. Duke was excited to see Valerie and when he saw her, Duke ran over to her as fast as he could.  Tom could not keep ahold of Duke's leash.  Duke started barking and jumping.  Valerie fell to the ground.  Tom quickly got ahold of Duke's leash and took Duke into his apartment.

3. Now Valerie's parents, Paolo and Pam, are suing Tom, as well as Lenny, for injuries they say Valerie sustained when Duke jumped up onto her.  They claim Duke bit her right arm and face.  Your law firm, Brown & Holt, represents Lenny the landlord.
