Tools Required: Devices in Packet Tracer: o Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers WLCs o Cisco Access Points APs o Switches Faculty of Information and Communication Technology I declare that I am familiar with, and will abide to the rules of Tshwane University of Technology Signature: Advanced Diploma : Information Technology Subject :Wireless Networks IV Semester Due Date : Oct Practical Assessment & Examiner: Mr TN Khosa Moderator :Dr Mabanza Class List Number: Student number Surname Initials Mark: Page of Semester Test o Laptops acting as clients Packet Tracer provides simplified simulations, and while it doesnt include full support for wireless controller features, it offers enough functionality to demonstrate key concepts like redundancy, failover, and configuration of wireless controllers. Part : Configuring High Availability for Controllers Setting Up the Environment Well use two Cisco WLCs and configure them in a redundant setup. For redundancy, we will use N redundancy. Steps: Open Cisco Packet Tracer. Add Devices: o Drag and drop two WLC devices onto the workspace. o Add two APs and connect them to each WLC o Add a switch for connecting WLCs and APs to the network. o Add laptops or mobile devices for client testing. Create a Topology: o Connect both WLCs to the switch. o Connect the APs to the switch. o The clients should connect wirelessly to the APs. Configuring the Primary and Backup WLC Configure Primary WLC: o Click the first WLC to open its configuration. Page of Semester Test o Go to the Wireless Access Points tab. o Assign the APs to the primary WLC o Configure SSID and wireless network settings eg security, authentication Configure Secondary WLC: o Open the second WLC o Assign it as the backup for the APs via the HA settings o Ensure the secondary WLC is in standby mode. AP High Availability Settings: o On each AP go to Wireless All APs High Availability tab. o Set the Primary Controller to the first WLC o Set the Secondary Controller to the second WLC Enable AP Fallback: o On the primary WLC go to Controller General and ensure AP Fallback is enabled. This allows APs to automatically reconnect to the primary controller if it becomes available after a failure.
