Try to describe a room creating a negative impression without using any "leading" adjectives like "ugly" or "smelly" or "disgusting" or "dirty" -- I want you to practice SHOWING, not telling. So for example: The room had a white couch with a spring peeking through the cracked leather. A grease-stained pizza box was on the linoleum floor that was once white, but had now faded to gray. A child could be heard crying from the next apartment. You see? That paragraph had no "negative" adjectives, but through my description I created a negative reaction in the reader. So I'd like you to write 2 5-sentence paragraphs this week, one that creates a negative response, one that creates a positive response, but without using any "negative" or "positive" adjectives! It's trickier than you think but remember, "show" nice things, don't tell us they're nice. Use the 5 senses -- not just what you see, but what you hear, what you smell, etc.!
