Question: Two shafts are connected by a rigid coupling, which is basically a shrink - fit bushing with an outer diameter of 1 2 0 mm

Two shafts are connected by a rigid coupling, which is basically a shrink-fit bushing with an outer
diameter of 120 mm . The diameter of each shaft is 80 mm and the diametral interference was =80
m before the shrink-fit bushing was mounted. The bushing and the shaft are made of steel with a
modulus of elasticity E=210GPa. Find the allowable temperature increase without slip in the press fit
if a power of 200 kW is transmitted and the far ends of the shafts cannot move axially. The coefficient
of thermal expansion is 11.510-6C, and the coefficient of friction is 0.1. The axial length of the
bushing press fit on each shaft is 80 mm . The rotational speed is 1500 rpm . Ans. tm=63.29C.
