Navigating Project Approaches: Predictive, Adaptive, and Hybrid

This activity aims to distinguish between Predictive, Adaptive, and Hybrid project approaches, and to suggest when each is applicable. It is designed to confirm students understanding of these project management approaches from a continuum perspective.

The Predictive approach, also known as the waterfall model, is at one end of the continuum, while the Adaptive approach $($Agile$)$ is at the other extreme. These two approaches are fundamentally separated by the principles outlined in the Agile Manifesto. As such, they differ in their approach to software development.

Key differences include the emphasis on processes and tools, the nature of interactions among individuals engaged in development, the focus on collecting and documenting requirements, the degree of flexibility allowed for additional requirements or features during project development, and the level of collaboration between project teams and stakeholders.

However, these approaches may be suitable depending on the project environment and situation. Practitioners have identified a middle ground known as the Hybrid approach, which leverages the strengths of both extremes.
