But you might not be the only student who decides that $8$ slides is more than the group needs. Other students might also decide to neglect their responsibilities to the group, in the hopes that the remaining students will still compose their slides and the presentation will satisfy the professor's requirements.

And if enough students decide to Free Ride, the presentation will come up short for the requirement, and the whole group will fail. This is a perfect example of the Collective Action problem: if everyone contributes, it is best for the group, but because there is a temptation to "cheat" and refuse to contribute, there's a chance that the entire group will suffer.
