Modelling a Situation
Due no later than 11:00 PM EST Sunday of Unit 4 or as directed by the professor
Value: 3% of final grade
Background
The modeling activity provides students with an opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of modeling notations and their ability to navigate Smartsheet, among other modeling platforms. This begins with a basic understanding of shapes and connectors. In this case, there will be a shared live experience with hospital visits. The rules of starting and ending with oval-like shapes, rectangles for activities and processes, and decision gates are covered. There are many players and different roles to be represented in this sample activity. Students will gradually be introduced to the world of process modeling, and eventually into modeling for business process improvement and optimization.
Activity
Login to Smartsheet to represent modeling notations.
Consider the following scenario: You have been asked to model a situation in a Hospital, from the entrance to the reception, for in-patients and outpatients, and visitors who come to visit their relatives. You are expected to include the doctors and nurses attending to the patients in the evening, while out patients go home. Presentation grades will be based on the engagement of all the actors present and the appropriateness of their fit in the process flow map.
