Use 40 words to answer the following questions class notes: What is modeling? Model = "a simplified representation of a system" (Winter 2019) Simplification means it's not perfectly accurate A model is about finding the sweet spot between simplicity and informativeness A model is often a guess used to make predictions, often about the relationship between variables. We often defining our model in terms of our prediction about our outcome variables based on our predictor variables. In statistics, "model" is usually referring to regression modeling, which is a type of statistical test The mean is generally the simplest model. We evaluate models based on how simple they are and how well they predict. STANDARD DEVIATION = "on average, how far from the mean is each data point". Instead of averaging, we do this math thing that I personally call "that squares business" = you square every number, average the squares, and then take the square root of that average. This does a couple things: it makes every number positive, it increases the impact of large numbers. question 1.Is there anything you enjoyed learning this week? 2.Is there anything that came up this week that you're curious to learn more about? 3.
