You are working as a barista at a local caf, Steaming Hotties. Your hard work and initiative have paid off and you have been appointed as a shift manager. The responsibilities of the role include, among other things, the training of new employees.

Crystal has recently been employed and works all her shifts under your supervision. While getting to know Crystal, she confides that she is a single mother with limited work experience. To her, this is a major chance to start getting ahead in life.

Unfortunately, Crystal appears hopelessly ill-suited to working in a coffee shop. Despite several weeks of your intense efforts, she has developed little in terms of customer service mentality. The coffee she makes is, frankly, undrinkable. You and the other members of the team pick up the slack so customers do not notice you clearly want to help Crystal turn her life around.

The end of Crystals probationary period is nearing and your boss has asked for your input on Crystals performance to date. Your boss is a hard task-master and you know that if you provide a full and frank assessment Crystal will be fired.

Use Kantian ethics to decide whether you should give a biased assessment to the boss so Crystal can keep her job.
