Use the 'Multiple Atoms' module to study the stimulated emission and explain the conditions in which lasing occurs.
Example of how to achieve the Lasing regime:
In order to obtain lasing, you need to vary the stimulation parameters to achieve inversion of the population. The screenshot included below depicts lasing regime obtain by setting up the following parameters for the "Multiple Atoms (Lasing)" tab option:
- Set Intensity to 100%.
- Set the Lifetime of the third level to a minimum.
- Check Enable mirrors.
- Set Mirror Reflectivity to a value below 100%. If the reflectivity is kept at the default value of 100%, then all photons are kept within the device, resulting in dangerous conditions (i.e., output energy keeps accumulating and the laser device will be damaged).
Parts that need to be answered:
Intro: Introduce this lab to someone that has never heard of the subject in much detail.
Data: Please include one picture from this lab exercise and the data collected.
Data Analysis: In short detail, please explain the data that was collected.
Discussion: Please discuss everything that was completed during this exercise. Explain how you altered things to get your data.
Conclusion: Please explain what was learned during this exercise. Also, please explain how there could have been some error and how you would fix it if you completed this lab again.
