The world of business thrives on the four disciplines/functional managements, which are Human Resource Management, Production Management, Marketing Management and Financial Management. HRM functions are undertaken by Human Resource Department manned by a Director to control organizational communication/public relations intertwined with other duties involving staff recruitment/appraisal/promotion through interviews, fixing of pay structures/allowances, welfare/records management of all personnel. In all spheres of human life and endeavors communication transcends in four approaches, namely, religiously, generally, organizationally and socially playing three cardinal roles of informing, educating and entertaining. Religiously, communication began with Gods word for creation recorded in Genesis 1:3 and John 1:1 written in the Holy Bible for Christians and the Holy Quran for Muslims with commandments preached by Prophets of old and the current dispensation. Generally, Wilber Schramm regards communication as oneness of thought between the sender and the recipient demanding understanding for feedback face-to-face or by phone or in writing. Organizationally, Redding, W. C. (1964) considered Organizational Communication as an aggregate of persons arranged in predetermined patterns of relationships in order to accomplish stated objectives. Organizational Communication involves exchange of information between two or more people as individuals or groups in an organization. It is directional by being formal (official) and informal (unofficial). Besides, it involves moving instructions and messages downward from top management to subordinates, upward as feedback and from subordinates to top management, horizontally between staff on the same grade level and diagonally across all levels of management positions when at meetings, durbars, workshops, seminars and conferences. There is liaison or coordination between internal stakeholders such as shareholders, management and subordinate staff working hand in hand with external stakeholders such as clients, customers, suppliers, bankers, journalists and government officials in the revenue sector. The means of communication are written and oral/verbal. Written communication takes the form of letters, memos, reports, minutes of meetings with the advantage of being kept for future reference but difficult to get immediate feedback. Oral/verbal communication take the form of face-to-face, instructions, use of phones for instant feedback but difficult to make reference unless it is recorded. Emphatically, organizational communication has the purpose of becoming the wheel on which a business carries its activities by using public relations officers and communicators to create awareness of goods and services for sale by relating to customers with good customer care and satisfaction to build goodwill. Finally, it uses communication model or cycle beginning with ideation by sender or encoder, transmitting it by a channel face-to-face or mechanically to the receiver or decoder to understand the message and ending with feedback from receiver to sender. All this concern the means or kinds of communication which carry information orally or verbally, visually and written in the areas of letters, memos, reports, business plans, minutes of meetings and proposals to conduct business transactions to yield profits to investors after paying all overheads or expenses covering staff remuneration and administrative costs. Socially, McCroskey, J.C. (2008) viewed social communication as the type of communication which focuses on family members and friends of communities having knowledge and understanding of what is happening around them. They must be aware of things in the local, national and international environment like the COVID-19 Pandemic with reference to having the awareness of the virus which causes the infection and how to prevent using protocols and treatments. Thus, the global environment and governments country by country have put in place isolation centers to quarantine people with positive testing using thermometer guns, COVID-19 tracker. Patients with serious conditions who could die are put on ventilators which are scarce and expensive. Health personnel wear personal protective equipments such as gowns, face masks, gloves as well footwear to treat patients, else they put their lives at risk. Presidents give national broadcast to address measures such as movement restrictions, lockdown, closure of schools, social and physical distancing alongside involving Government Information/Communication Ministers holding press conference and followed by daily press released in the print and electronic media of total people tested positive, recovery rate and death. In conclusion, religious sects, business organizations, societies/communities and political parties all use communication media to address matters of interest to all and sundry in all human settlements in awareness creation. The President of Accra Institute of Technology (AIT), one Professor Clement Dzidonu in a workshop run for faculty members on online viral teaching and learning slated on Thursday, 30th April, 2020, remarked that the COVID-19 Pandemic is an opportunity to learn new things like online teaching and learning using the Google Classroom or Zoom. He also touched on expansion of our health facilities, social distancing, personal hygiene and clean environment. He cautioned doing things the old way after the COVID-19 means we have not learnt any lesson.
