There are a total of 136 tubes in these areas with a total power consumption of 2.72kW. The building is operation 24hr / day and staff interviewed reported these lights are always on. Annual consumption may therefore be day 1,561(16,877kWh) and night 365(6,949kWh). External Lighting External lighting is provided by a mixture of pole-mounted and wall-mounted lamps; thought to be mainly 150-200W Sodium lamps. Estimated power consumption is 250.2kW12hr365=26,288kWh (with losses). Equipment As previously mentioned there are three rooms of Communications / IT equipment at this site and a large UPS bank of batteries. This equipment is not sub-metered. This equipment is critical and runs continuously and its inherent efficiency is not covered by this survey. There approximately 80 workstations on the first floor containing a mixture of desktops and laptops. The number of monitors on desks varies from 1 each in general offices, to 4 or 5 each in system and incident control (approximately 25 workstations). Typical power consumption of the larger 30 inch monitors in control is 30W (HP ZR30w). Staff leave desktop PCs switched on outside of office hours (night-time, weekends etc). If is estimated that each PC use 3W in standby mode then annual standby power consumption is up to 3Wx(16840hrs)52 Four staff were questioned about their understanding of the organisation's energy policy, objectives, monitoring and targeting for this site, and energy awareness: two from the main office, one from the control room and another from the network projects. All members of staff recalled attending the environmental awareness course, but not the details regarding energy efficiency. One interviewee thought that the organisation had an energy efficiency policy - but was not aware of the details, three were not sure. None were aware of any specific energy targets for this site building, or had received information about actually consumption.
