Using the SEC 10-K for NIKE 2022, answer the following questions below.
Go to the Statement of Stockholders' Equity for your company. This report has some variations of this name. Another name might be "Statement of Changes in Shareholders' Equity", or ""Statement of Shareholders' Investment". This report shows changes in the equity accounts for stock, additional paid-in capital, and retained earnings, among other things. It also reports if the company paid dividends. Since you have learned a bit about owners' equity, it should be of interest for you to know if your company paid dividends.
Note that this report shows four different balances in owners' equity, starting with the oldest year first. Look toward the bottom of the report for the most recent year, and look for a line that says "Common Stock Dividends". Dividends are usually shown toward the bottom of the items listed. If paid, they will appear in parentheses in the Retained Earnings column. If you can't find a line, it means the company did not pay dividends.
If the company paid dividends, how much in total was paid? (If the company did not pay dividends, say so.) If you can find the dividends paid per share, it may be helpful to report that too. Not all companies show that amount.
It might also help to look at dividends paid in the prior 2 years reported. Do you see a pattern?
Comment on what you found. Did the dividends paid seem high or low, or were you surprised by what you found out?
