Using what you've learned about the standards and the position statement on use of early assessment information, write short responses to these questions in a word document.

1. Why should preschool teachers deeply understand the Early Learning Standards and use them to plan meaningful, play-based learning activities daily for children in their care?

2. How will the standards help you convey appropriate expectations of children's development to parents or guardians of the children in your care? How could you use them to suggest learning activities at home?

3. How would you use the standards to discourage learning activities that may be too advanced for preschool-aged children (ie; using math worksheets with 4-year-olds, expecting 3-year-olds to write words, etc.)

4. How might the use of screening tools and observation-based assessments help you as a preschool teacher determine if a child is at-risk in a particular domain area (language, mathematical thinking, motor development) in order for you to intervene quickly and meaningfully.
