vebapps/assignment/uploadAssignment... B Due Date Thursday, March 24, 2022 10:01 PM Points Possible 10 Dr. Carter G. Woodson is considered "the Father of Black History," so I expect you all to be respectful in how you address the excerpts we read from this seminal text, even if you disagree. He founded Negro History Week, which eventually became Black History Month. The "Miseducation of the Negro," was published in 1933, and as such, he uses the dated term "Negro" to refer to Black people. As you're writing your reflections for this week, please keep in mind that language has changed significantly since the early 1930s and we no longer are called Negroes. It is offensive and inappropriate to call us that. In fact, we often use it in a derogatory or facetious manner, so do NOT call Black people Negroes in your reflections, unless there is some type of rhetorical reason to do so. If that's the case, I encourage you to use quotations marks or italicize the word. How does Dr. Woodson describe Black educational experiences (both as students and as educators) during the late 19th and early 20th centuries? What does he mean by 'miseducation?" What is the harm in being miseducated? Why is Woodson so critical of Black universities? Is Woodson's discussion of Black higher education institutions (what we now call HBCUS) relevant today? In today's day in age, should more Black people be in control of educating Black youth (use Woodson's text to support your rationale for why or why not)? (Keep in mind that these are merely suggestions to get you thinking about the text. You do not have to answer these questions if you don't want to, or you can select one or more to help guide your critical reflection. The choice is yours, as long as you demonstrate that you've critically analyzed what you've read/watched)
