Waist to Hip Ratio (WHR) is better at predicting mortality in older people than waist circumference or BMI. According to a study published in the Lancet, if obesity is redefined based on WHR instead of BMI, people categorized as at-risk of heart attack increases threefold. WHR above 0.9 for males and above 0.85 for females defines "abdominal obesity." Women in the 0.7 range have excellent estrogen levels (fat-binding hormone), are less susceptible to diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and ovarian cancers. Women with high WHR (0.8 or higher) have significantly lower pregnancy rates. Men with WHRS around 0.9 are also less at risk for prostate and testicular cancers. Using the flexible tape, measure your WHR. If you are a woman, describe the amount of time it will take you to get to 0.7 if you change by 0.1 WHR per month. If you are a man, describe the amount of time it will take you to get to 0.8 if you change by 0.1 WHR per month.
