We are designing a simple machine interface for use in a manufacturing process. The machining step can be performed on parts that are less than 10 inches and longer than 1 inch. Recently the parts have been over length and have been causing the need to shut the tool down so that the part can be removed and the tool reset.
The production manager has asked the automation team to come up with a screening process to minimize the chance of this happening. After some discussion, they agree on the following process.
