Important: Before proceeding with this week$$s assignment, review the research questions that you submitted last week and the feedback received from your instructor, as well as the problem statement from earlier in this course. Revise the research questions and problem statement based on your instructor$$s feedback. Please do this before proceeding. Remember, a dissertation is an iterative process; adjustments, revisions, and edits are part of the process. They are done continuously. As stated earlier in this course, each assignment is a culmination of everything that came before it$.$ Addressing feedback is critical to refining your work each week.

The purpose statement you will write this week will be very much based on your research questions $($that you revise, based on your instructor$$s feedback$)$ and problem statement. So$,$ a good place to start is your research questions, using the same wording of your research questions in your purpose statement $($as this helps ensure alignment between your research questions and purpose statement$).$

The guidance in the $2023$ NU dissertation manuscript template $($click here to view the available template in the Dissertation Center, something which you will begin using in your next course$),$ provides these instructions for writing a purpose statement $($technically called Purpose of the Study$)$:

$$ Begin with a succinct purpose statement that identifies the study method, design, and overarching goal. $$ Indicate how the study is a logical$,$ explicit research response to the stated problem and the research questions to follow.

$$ Identify the variables$/$constructs$,$ materials$/$instrumentation$,$ and analysis.

$$ For the proposal $($DP$)$ identify the target population and sample size needed. For the manuscript $($DM$),$ edit and list the sample size obtained.

$$ Identify the site$($s$)$ where the research will be $($proposal$)$ or was $($manuscript$)$ conducted using general geographic terms to avoid identifying the specific location. To avoid compromising participants$$ confidentiality or anonymity, use pseudonyms.

$$ Do not exceed one paragraph or one page.

Ensure your purpose statement has these essential details:

$$ Similar $($or the same$)$ wording used for your research questions

$$ Target population from which you will gather data

$$ Research setting

$$ Sampling frame

o Consider research ethics and the feasibility of obtaining data from the identified population.

$$ Sample size

o Power analysis for quantitative studies

o Justified by scholarly sources for qualitative studies

o Data collection technique $($how will you gather your data, and is it backed by scholarly sources that this data technique is used in this research design and methods?$)$

$$ Data analysis process $($must align with stated design$)$

$$ Closing statement on how the study results may inform practice $($applied$)$ or add to theory $($Ph$.$D$.)$

Before submitting this assignment, review your work and make sure you have addressed each item mentioned above. Furthermore, ensure your purpose statement closely aligns with your research questions. Also, be sure you have edited it very well.
