WELLBEING IN THE WORKPLACE

Working with a partner or small groups, you will be assigned one of the scenarios below. As a group, you will need to resolve the concern.

In one of the aerobic classes at Bounce Fitness the instructor is noticing that a small group of the class is constantly speaking in Spanish. The instructor does not speak nor understand Spanish but feels that she is the topic of the conversation and this is leaving her feeling anxious and excluded.

Alex has worked as an instructor at Bounce Fitness for the past 3 years. She is normally happy and upbeat, but over the last few weeks you notice that there has been a change in her behaviour. She often comes to work looking tired and appears to be at time teary eyed.

The closure of Bounce Fitness centres after the mandatory lockdown of 2021 has left many of the employees feeling anxious and nervous about returning to work. Policies and procedures have been put in place to ensure Covid safety.

Martin Sanders is the Assistant Manager for Bounce Fitness in Sydney. Martin has taken a call from an irate customer that has spoken in an abusive and insulting manner, threatening to be violent with him if he came into the centre. As the Assistant Manager, Martin feels that he needs to be able to handle this situation himself, but it has left him upset and unable to focus on work for the rest of the day.

Lucy Jeffery has come into work with a tray of sweets, offering them to the team. When she is questioned what the occasion is, she responds with Chanukah and proceeds to explain that it is an eight-day festival commemorating the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem many centuries ago. Lucy is Jewish and observes religious days of the Jewish calendar.
