What are the benefits gained and pitfalls avoided when a professional uses a system of ethics? Ethic
Question:
What are the benefits gained and pitfalls avoided when a professional uses a system of ethics?
Ethic in short are needed to keep the media in an unbiased state, however with the changing culture, ethics is not seen as a one size fits all. According to Stephen J. A Ward's article he states the importance of the importance of ethics in journalism. He states "We need to rethink the basis of media ethics from the ground up. The tweaking of ideas and re-formulation of rules, as seen in recent revisions of codes of ethics, is a temporary, localized fix. It does not address the larger conceptual swamp in which we find media ethics (Stephen J. A. Ward, "WHY WE NEED A RADICAL NEW FRAMEWORK FOR MEDIA ETHICS", University of Wisconsin, October 1, 2015)". In short, there are varing degrees of how media and journalist tackle the framework of ethics. The article goes on to say that "Many journalists prefer interpreting news for audience rather than presenting objective news (Stephen J. A. Ward, "WHY WE NEED A RADICAL NEW FRAMEWORK FOR MEDIA ETHICS", University of Wisconsin, October 1, 2015)." One advantage of having ethics in the media is that the public is more likely to see the news outlet as a trusted source of information and maintain good relations with the audience. The best way to avoid the pitfalls of bias according to Ward in his article is "Future media ethics should say useful things on the responsible use of new media, and how to deal with integrated newsrooms (Stephen J. A. Ward, "WHY WE NEED A RADICAL NEW FRAMEWORK FOR MEDIA ETHICS", University of Wisconsin, October 1, 2015)."
