The volume of milk will be the independent variable because it determines the amount of sleep the mother gets. The dependent variable is the amount of sleep the mother gets because it is dependent on the amount the newborn eats.

Would you predict the relationship between variables to be positive, or would you predict the relationship to be negative? Why?

The relationship between the two would be positive because the more mLs of milk the newborn eats the more sleep the mother gets. The more mLs the newborn gets the more the newborn sleeps after. Both end up on on sleeping schedule.

Would you perceive the relationship between variables to be strong, or would you perceive the relationship to be weak? Why?

The relationship would be weak because there would be a lot of variation between mothers and babies across the board.
