Because a farmer, or farming company, sets a higher standard of cleaner and more green agricultural practices, the price of the extra costs of labor and products are reflected in the consumer's price. It makes the most financial sense for a product to be more expensive because of the additional resources and measures that must be taken to ensure its label is correct. This concept does raise the question of, when can sustainable products become the social norm, and be able to be priced as equal, or less expensive than its non-sustainable competitor
