A hypothesis can be simply defined as an educated guess. Nevertheless, the research question is looking to answer within the research results for scientific purposes. Hypotheses are essential because they help the researcher find the commonalities between the tested variables, resulting in answering the hypothetical question with the results. Nevertheless, a more precise hypothesis will ensure that the research follows the proper guidelines for a valid scientific result. The way hypothesis is conducted in psychology is that the questions being tested have two variables that can be tested. The primary difference between the null and the research hypothesis is that the null hypothesis has a true starting point without knowing much information. The great importance of the Null hypothesis is that it is the "benchmark against which actual outcomes of a study can measure" (Salkind and Frey, 2020). An example of a null hypothesis is no difference between the social outcome of homeschooled children and school-going children. An example of a research hypothesis is a tremendous difference in the number of friends children that go to school have versus homeschooled children.
