What is the consultation within the following case study ABC has purchased a new item of plant (electric forklift truck) for the workshops. The experienced operators and other staff were not consulted during the design and purchasing stage by the floor management team. The operators were instructed to unload large quantities of goods, with the use of the new forklift without any refresher training. The operators are accustomed to using diesel operated forklifts only, they all hold their current LF and LO licenses. The staff have raised safety concerns, questioning the lack of safety controls on the new forklift and their own skill and knowledge to operate the latest forklift. It has also been noted, there is no documentation such as company procedures or manufacturers specifications to accompany the safe use and maintenance of the forklift. The staff have raised the safety issues with their direct area supervisor to no resolution, therefore the issue has been raised with the elected safety and health representative.
