Chapter 06: Now What? video
>> Hey, Ryan. What's going on? Hey, you look upset. Are you all right?
>> I just learned that Happy Time pays John more than me, even though I was hired a year before he was. Do you believe that?
>> Well, why do you think that is?
>> I wish I knew. Maybe he's related to someone in the company. But we should be paid the same if we do the same job, right? Having a hard time trusting this company to do the right thing if they can't even be fair with this.
>> Wow, that does seem unfair. You must be pretty upset.
>> Yeah, I am. See you later.
>> Hey, Ryan. How's it going?
>> John, good.
>> Is that your new car out there?
>> Yeah, yeah, it is.
>> She's a beauty.
>> Yeah, thanks. I love those new heated leather seats. It's great. Hey, when are you going to get yourself one of those?
>> I'm just weighing my options now, you know? Just seeing how things go.
>> I'll see you later, man, all right?
>> Yeah, yeah. I'm so underpaid. A few extra supplies could really boost my paycheck.
>> You know, John's probably just been lucky, you know? Maybe your luck will turn around.
>> It better. This is so unfair.
>> Well, hang in there, Ryan.
>> Hello?
>> Hey, Billy. Did you hear about John?
>> No, what do you mean?
>> I don't know how many people know about this, but I heard he's considering another job.
>> Really?
>> Yeah. I also hear he's thinking about moving to one of our competitors and starting a Toy Land like our new one that he can run as brand manager.
>> I don't believe it. That would really hurt the company. Helping a competitor copy a product line is like stealing from us.
>> Yeah. I don't think he deserves much of a bonus this year if he's going to consider doing stuff like that. Don't tell anyone you heard this from me.
>> Well, I think your comparison might be a little off. John does have about five years more experience than you do.
>> Really?
>> That's what I learned when I was interviewing. And plus, he probably puts in about 50 hours a week to our 40. So he might be getting paid a little bit more, but you've got more of a life. He's a great performer. He's better than anybody else here.
>> I had no idea he put so much into his job. He is our best performer.
>> Yeah, and he's been in the business forever.
>> That explains in part why he's so good.
>> Yeah. So don't you think he deserves a little bit more money?
>> When you put it that way, I have to agree. He's a real asset to this company.
>> You know, I think that this company is very fair on rewarding performance. I feel like if I job well, I'll be fairly rewarded.
>> Yeah. I guess I should just focus on doing my own job better, huh? Hey, maybe I'll ask John to mentor me.
>> That's a great idea. You know, maybe I should, too.
>> Thanks, Alex.
>> Yeah, man. Any time.
