When you learn how to set up a network, one of the first ones you will likely want to implement is a home network. You should first think about the audience you are serving and their needs.

• How many members in the household will use the network?
• Where in the house will they leverage it?
• How many devices will be accessing the network?
• How will they benefit from it?

Next, you will have to determine the equipment that would be needed to support the network.

Scenario:

You or someone you know just moved into a new house, and you have been tasked to connect all devices to the Internet, minimally including phones, tablets, wireless thermostats, gaming consoles, and computers.

Part 1

Discuss and document in a Word document the following:

• Describe what characteristics of the house you have taken into consideration for your network (e.g., how many bedrooms, floors, etc.).
  • Your house must minimally include two floors and ten rooms.
• Determine for your home network the location of each device in your home, and where you would put the network drops and the cabling.
  • Explain why you made your choices.
• Review different ISPs in your local area, share who they are, and choose one to support your network needs. In order to connect to your chosen Internet Service Provider (ISP), share:

  • What role does that device play on your network?
