While the civil war was a monumental stepping stone for blacks and civil rights movements, the impact
Question:
While the civil war was a monumental stepping stone for blacks and civil rights movements, the impact blacks had on economies in both the north and south differed from each other concerning opportunities, and treatment toward black people did not differ much at all.
Black americans struggle to find their place in society as they fight in a war that is supposed to bring equality for them, leaving them either in worse living conditions in their communities or in the same conditions as before the war. The question they continue to look for an answer for “are we better off in the north or the south?”
Comparing north and south
- Attitudes and treatmeant towards blacks in both the north and south seemed to resemble each other even though the north appeared to be anti slavery and the south businesses thrived heavily on slavery.
- Both sides fight to protect their way of life the north (abolitionists) fighting to for equality of black people while the south believe that blacks are better off as slaves.
- Black people helped both north and south build their economies and provide social status for the people they were slaves to or worked for.
Contrasting north and south
- The impact of slavery and free labor had on both societies and how population affected how these economies were able to thrive off of either business.
- There was very slow progress toward equality for blacks in the south than in the north which inturn affected the outcome of the war.
- the two counties made use of black people in different ways, the south gaining their wealth more agriculturally using plantations, and the north thriving off of industrial/factory work.
While the north and south fought to keep their lifestyles, black people still struggled to find their own place within the economies all while being used to build each counties economic worth and without seeing a benefit for themselves.
