f Answer 1 of 1 Ones that stand out for me are Montreal and Ottawa in Canada, New Orleans, New York City, Los Angeles, and Rio de Janeiro. These are the cities I have actually visited. Montreal (and I suspect Quebec) are picked for their distinctive French influence. Without leaving North America you can get immersed in the experience: food, art, architecture, and language - like a trip to France without the expense or time. New Orleans, for me, is unique because it has the Creole cuisine, the endlessly interesting Cajun rituals, history, VooDoo, and general exoticness. New York City is the center of the financial industry, the fashion industry in America, the food industry (in terms of cooking, not farming or supply), theater, and the art industry - both antiques and modern; and is the most diverse in terms of population - atracting immigrants from all over the world that are constantly helping to invent and re-invent the city. Los Angeles, of course, has the entertainment industry as its great allure. Hollywood entertains much of the world - 1 know exceptions should be made for Bollywood - and really innovative movies come from other countries, but when the world thinks "movies," LA inevitably comes into the conversation. Music too has found a home here, although Nashville and Seattle have some claims for other forms of popular music, and Austin too. But the bulk of the popular music is based in LA and there is little use in pretending otherwise. Rio de Janeiro is included because, well, it is one of the most physically beautiful cities in the world. When you think tropical paradise Rio really has to be included. Fantastic beaches, awesome mountains, a cornucopia of tropical flora and fauna. The carioca the churascarrias, and the people are amazing. It is like being in eternal summer all year long.
