Collaboration is a part of working life that is essential Builds your communication skills Different perspectives Concerns: Doing your fair share Time for meeting/planning Who you will be working with Grades dependent on someone else Loading MODES OF GROUP WORK Creating Coming up with something unique and innovative Investigating Learning something about a subject that you may not have thought of Critiquing Gets you thinking about how to improve and make things better What you like and dont like can reflect in your work YOUR GROUP PROJECT: TEACH THE CLASS Criteria: Choose an activity to teach to the class Should be relevant to our class syllabus As a group, do a short proposal for where you pitch your idea Groups of 4 or 5 1 person will be the overall lead facilitator of the activity 1 person will be the assistant facilitator and be responsible for the activity 1 person will be responsible for any handouts/supplies required - PowerPoint 1 person will be the assessor and report writer of the activity applying Tuckmans Model to the group process Your presentation will be 15 minutes Loading POSSIBLE TOPICS IDEAS - THE SKY IS THE LIMIT! BUT EACH GROUP MUST HAVE A DIFFERENT TOPIC Perception Communication Public Speaking Team Building Stress Ethical Behaviour Finances Self Care Memory Attribution Bias Emotional Intelligence Time Management Writing Skills Journals Critical Thinking Argument/Persuasion Studying Group Presentations FIRST STEPS TODAY Get into your groups Choose a time that your group would like to Pitch your idea When choosing your pitch time, remember that once your instructor accepts a pitch idea from another group, that pitch idea is TAKEN. With your group, discuss/research different activities that interest you Think about a back up idea or two as well because there will be NO repeat topics/activities Determine your role This must be presented at the Pitch with an explanation of why each person took each role Get ready to Pitch your idea Your Pitch CAN be rejected YOUR PITCH SECOND HALF OF CLASS Should Include: A description of your plan and ideas Professionalism/Deportment Where you got your ideas from (source) What each persons role will be and why Why you think the class will like what you are presenting on What you want the training to teach your fellow students What do you hope to achieve? BE ON TIME FOR YOUR PITCH TIME!!!!! MARKING CRITERIA AND WORTH 1 Point for content of Pitch presentation 1 Point for quality of Pitch presentation 1 Point for noticeable preparation and content of presentation 1 Point for group cohesiveness 1 Point for quality of presentation (clear ideas, organization) 1 Point for Professionalism in dress and deportment 1 Point for hand in on Tuckmans Model
