Why have database management systems such as Microsoft SQL and Oracle remained relevant for more than $40$ years when so many other technologies have changed?

Those systems are not compatible with newer data applications.

There is still a basic need to keep data organized and accessible.

The total amount of data has not increased much over that time.

Companies cannot afford to change away from their old systems.

I don't know this yet.
