Wind power is one of the potential renewable energy sources for commercial power generation. Design and selection
Question:
Wind power is one of the potential renewable energy sources for commercial power generation. Design and selection of a suitable system is the success of using this technology. A wind power system has to be installed to supply power to the local area and grid from a seashore near to Sohar region. The average velocity of the wind in the region is 44 to 60 km per hour and it is available for 180 full days in a year. The total power needed from this project is 24 MW and this power should be produced from 10 turbines.
The turbines can produce a maximum of 80 % of its rated power. From the total power generated, 50% has should be supplied to a nearby company and the balance has to be uploaded in a high-voltage grid. In the above situation, you are asked to prepare a report which consists of a discussion on your strategy with a schematic diagram, selection of turbines, specification of turbine-performance parameters, components used in the conversion process, selection of battery storage unit, management of power to the industry and the grid, expected power generation and distribution per year in kWh etc. Besides, a critical discussion on the risks and challenges in the planning and execution of this proposal, and your suggestion to overcome those issues should be added appropriately. The factor and efficiencies needed for your discussion and analysis can be taken from form published materials.
