Unit Electronics company reduces electronic process controls for industrial use.
The products are designed for the specific customers and requires the
production department to work closely with QC & QA department. In one of
the specific orders Charles, production manager assigned Mr. Williams to work
in QC department for this particular job. Williams had the previous experience
and was well acquainted with the processes and Charles was confident of his
abilities. The test engineer for this job was Mr. Dale.
A week after working Williams had problem working with Dale. Williams
reported to Charles of the same and the latter promised to visit the
department shortly.
When Charles visited the department Dale started complaining about
Williams immediately. He pointed out that William was undermining his
authority by giving direct instructions to his (Dales) subordinates and also
contradicted him in front of them. After a number of complaints Dale asked
Charles to substitute Williams with someone else. He also threatened that if
not done he would have Williams removed from the top authorities. Charles
listened very patiently, asked some questions but made no promises or
judgments.
Williams had seen Charles talking to Dale and when Charles was leaving
the department he commented that a lot of complaints would have come from
Dale. Charles acknowledged and admitted by saying yes but did not mention
about the threat of transfer.
Williams said that he had to correct Dale if things were fouled up and
Dale could not stand this. Charles admitted that the situation was sensitive and
since Dale was in charge of the department they should play it cool.
Charles thought a lot for a few days and deliberated with himself about
the same and finally he decided to shift Williams from the department. In a
short while Dale walked into the office and thanked Charles for the transfer.
Even before Charles had informed Williams about the same. This stunned
Charles although he did not say anything.
Williams met Charles the next day and told him that there was a mark
difference in Daless attitude after your visit to the department
