If I were the HR manager in charge of deciding the requirements for tuition reimbursement I would try to make this plan as clear cut as possible, so there is no confusion in the agreement.

  1. I would only let employees in the program that do not have any disciplinary action. I would make employee reimbursement available for full time employees who will be going to school full time at 100% reimbursement and part time employees at 50 % reimbursement. In order to be reimbursed 100% the employee would need to work 40 hours per week and the part time would need to work at least 24 hours per week.
  2. I would say that an employee would need to have been employed by the company for at least a 12 month rolling calendar year to be eligible for tuition reimbursement.
  3. I think that in order for the company to reimburse the employee, the courses that they take should be related to their job. For business administration I would say any course that is directly related to the business side would be eligible. Classes like this would be anything customer or employee related. Any field that directly relates to the employee and their job would be considered. I think that since business administration can cover many courses this would need to be approved by the HR manager before they would cover the cost.
  4. As far as the level of cost, I think that the company would need to cap the spending based on their revenue. Some companies can afford to offer more tuition reimbursement than others, so this would depend on the annual income of the company.
  5. I think that in order to have a good functioning tuition reimbursement plan you would need to scale according to grades. A company that is willing to put forth the money should want the employee to take the courses seriously. I would scale their reimbursement similar to the example provided. Anything under a C I would not reimburse the employee for.
  6. If an employee is offered reimbursement, I think that I would like to keep them on the job for at least 6 months and if they decided to leave before that I would have them pay back 50% of the tuition reimbursement.
