write a short and practical response to this class discussion post "Siggers - Original Post Tics typically manifest in childhood and are categorized at motor or phonic, with severities of simple or complex. Motor tics can be as simple as blinking or grimacing and as complex as tonic, gyrations, or even so violent to cause injury (Jankovic, 2024). Phonic tics can be as simple as grunting or throat clearing or as severe as obscenities and repetition of words or phrases. Both can be devastating socially and emotionally. Sadly, studies have shown increases in depression, mood disorders and even suicide in people with persistent tics into adulthood (Jankovic, 2024). Comoboridities include ADHD and OCD, which are common. If a person has these comorbidities, social, academic and occupational challenges are increased (Boland, Verduin, & Ruiz, 2023). Mild forms of Tourette's disorder or tics can function well with their peer groups and may do well academically and socially. Severe complex motor or phonic tics can easily become the targets of bullies and social rejection, and also severely impair academics (Boland, Verduin, & Ruiz, 2023). Being a target socially, or being isolated, can lead to depression and interventions should be implemented. Any concurrent or resulting mood disorder should be addressed and treated appropriately, either with therapy or medications, for the safety of the child. Treatment of comorbid conditions of ADHD and/or OCD can improve quality of life
