Lot control record keeping is so important in case of problems that occur like recalls or defects. If a product uses a specific raw material and has been determined to be defective, its much easier to track down the units that were made using that specific lot or batch. If the material that was used did not have the lot number recorded, it was be significantly more difficult and incur higher costs to correct the problem.
