A lawyer is general prohibited from handling a litigated matter in which they would testify because it is a major conflict of interest for the lawyer and the client alike. The lawyer has pressure to support their client, but expressing such support may be discredited by opposing counsel since they are affiliated with the client, so of course they would talk positively. There's also a chance that opposing counsel may not be as vigorous on the other lawyer out of professional respect. At the top of this list, a lawyer speaking not in the client's favor generates many problems by itself.
