My experience

Making the video on healthy conflict was an educational experience. In the beginning, I was nervous as I tried to find the right balance between reassuring workers about their job security and recognizing the organization's financial problems. It took a lot of thought and empathy to come up with an answer that was both kind and helpful. It was crucial that the message was inclusive and focused on collaboration, rather than accusing or defending.

As I think about what I know about leadership and management, I've come to understand how important it is for good leaders to find the right balance between being assertive and being empathetic. This course has made me think more about how leadership isn't just about telling people what to do; it's also about creating a space where everyone on the team feels appreciated and able to contribute. It also stressed the need to be open and flexible when solving tough organizational issues.

My colleague's experience

I felt comfortable responding to the healthy conflict in the first discussion. Having served in leadership, management, and followership roles, I have had to navigate conflict in each of these roles. This course has deepened my understanding of my leadership and followership styles, allowing me to view past actions with a new perspective. I have also reflected on my organization's structure and leadership approaches to help strengthen current relationships. Gaining a solid foundation in organizational structure has directly enhanced my professional understanding of business operations, and I look forward to learning and applying additional skills. Working in higher educationparticularly during a time of significant change at both the state and federal levelshas sparked my interest in further exploring the impact of grants, funding, and policy on organizational structure. While I do not have a question at this time, I am eager to continue expanding my knowledge in these areas.
