Bad-News Message

You work for Conventions Are Us, a company that prides itself on its attention to details for all of the conventions it coordinates. In order to maintain this excellence, the company has chosen to only work within the Orlando, Florida, area.

For the past three years, you have coordinated the annual seminar for the American Writing Association (AWA). The seminar, which lasts for five days, has been incredibly successful for both the organization and your company. The seminar is always held during the first full week in November.

Today, out of the blue, you got a letter from Nancy Smith, President of the AWA, asking you to consider a seminar during the first weekend in June. She didnt say whether this is an extra seminar or whether it will replace Novembers seminar. Additionally, she said if they were not able to have it at your facility, they would be considering a more central location such as Kansas City.

Unfortunately, its very short notice, and your convention space is booked almost a full year in advance. As a result, a new seminar to occur within the next several months is just not possible. You could suggest a friend at another convention planner in the area to try to keep AWA in Orlando, but you dont want Smith to turn to that person permanently, as you enjoy doing the seminars, and AWA is one of your main clients. If the event is held in the Kansas City area, you have similar concerns.

Write a response to Ms. Smith. Your response is due to her no later than midnight, on the date scheduled within the syllabus and/or course schedule. Please remember to use proper letter formatting as was discussed in Chapter 4. This will involve creating addresses for both your company and Ms. Smith.
