Writing Strong Body Paragraphs Overview: a organized A body paragraph is where you develop the ideas in your essay. A body paragraph is not stream of consciousness collection of ideas that you write out. A body paragraph is and carefully planned. Every sentence should have a purpose, and every sentence should be carefully planned out by you in order to accurately and clearly help your reader understand your ideas. Follow the steps below to practice writing a body paragraph. 1) Support your thesis Directions: Before you start writing the body of your essay, you need to make sure you have a clear thesis to follow. The thesis is like compass of your essay. Each body paragraph must directly support your thesis. Write a draft thesis statement to help guide your body paragraph. Being afraid to make mistakes will keep you from learning. 2) Use transitions to signal a new idea Directions: Transitions help your reader to follow (understand) your ideas. When you start a new body paragraph, it's a good idea to use a transition to help your reader know that your paper is moving to a new idea. Choose a transition to use from the list below. Circle it. And if you don't speak your target language language, two things happen (6). In other words, if you tell yourself that you have to make sure you're perfect before you speak, so you don't make mistakes, you'll never learn.
