He said the robot will command a suggested retail price of $9,200. He said the company plans an initial product of 8,000 robots.

Smedlee said the technology that powers and operates the robot was obtained in an exclusive license, from Dell Computer Corporation, which retains the right to market the robot as a computer operator. Following the robot demonstration the stock of Reliable Home Products rose 72 percent on the New York Stock Exchange, closing at a record high of $114 per share. Reliable Home Products, based in Jacksonville, Florida, has been a leading manufacturer of automated products for the home since 1952. It employs 9,000 at 11 facilities in eight states.
