XYZ Manufacturing recently implemented a software update aimed at

improving the consistency of its machinery for producing metal

components. Prior to the update, the process produced components

with an average diameter of $108$ mm $,$ which is slightly below the

specification limits of $100$ mm $($lower$)$ and $120$ mm $($upper$),$ with a

standard deviation of $5$ mm $.$ After the update, the average diameter

was centered at $110$ mm $,$ and the standard deviation decreased to $2$

mm $.$ The company is now evaluating the impact of the software update

on process capability.
