You are a human resource generalist working in a hospital. A new line manager comes to you
Question:
You are a human resource generalist working in a hospital. A new line manager comes to you seeking help after he received his first grievance. The line manager has 8 years of experience working as a floor nurse and was very well respected by his co-workers for his skills and talent as a nurse. He has been a line manager for less than a year and is starting to show signs of being discouraged. The grievance he received is from a small group of nurses complaining about heavy workload and poor scheduling, stating there are not enough staff to safely look after patients on evening, nights and weekends. The manager has never worked through a grievance before.
Question #1
How will you assist the line manager to effectively respond to the grievance. The work plan must identify the recommended steps you recommend he take in this process. It should also identify the individuals that should be involved at each step along with any materials you recommend that may be needed.
Question #2
What suggestions would you give the line manager to be successful in his new role? And what approach/strategies would you recommend to the manager in order for him to effectively limit and promptly address future issues before they become grievances?
Question #3
Indicate 2 measures you will use to evaluate the success of your plan.
