You have been asked to produce a description of the purpose and working of differential gearing for a small section of a children's book (target age 12-14) (This must be less than one hundred and fifty words)

 

The description must be restricted to an absolute maximum of the indicated number of words (title included). Any excess length would be cut before publication. So, in each case, marks will not be awarded for anything you write beyond the word limit. Include a word count at the end of each description.

 

You will be awarded marks for the following:

• demonstrating a clear distinction between the two descriptions, in terms of using appropriate language for the intended audience and assuming a suitable level of prior knowledge/understanding
• the clarity, conciseness and technical accuracy of each individual description
• writing in an engaging style.
