You have just started a new job as a manager working in an organisation that is responsible for looking after vulnerable people. There are 3 managers, including you, who manage 20 other members of staff. In your first staff meeting with the 20 members of staff, it becomes clear that they are not happy with their working conditions, especially how they have been treated by the other managers, and this is affecting their ability to carry out their work to high standards. Their complaints include: Feeling monitored, and having a lack of privacy, by having in clock in and clock out for bathroom breaks. Senior members of staff being rude, for example, not greeting them when they pass in the corridor. Having nowhere to sit during their breaks and no way of making hot drinks. Hot food being banned on the premises. People being told off in front of colleagues for small errors such as wearing the wrong shoes. Ideas put forward by the team are ignored by senior management. There is no support for continuing professional development so staff feel that their career development is not being supported. They are made to feel bad for booking annual leave or for taking sick leave. After hearing this, you are not happy that this workplace does not treat all colleagues with dignity and respect as you take working ethically very seriously. You decide to write a document to share with the other managers to explain what you, as managers, can do to ensure that you act in an ethical manner towards the employees. In your document, you should outline the following: What you, as managers, should do in order to promote and protect the individual rights of all staff in the workplace. How you, as managers, should behave in order to ensure that all staff in the workplace are treated with dignity and respect. To help you write your response, you can consider the following: Human Rights Act 1998 You have just started a new job as a manager working in an organisation that is responsible for looking after vulnerable people.
