• You need to create/design an instruction sheet for a receiver/reader who has little, if any, experience doing whatever it is youre going to tell them how to do.

• There is no maximum length for this (but dont get too carried away). It should be as long as it takes to clearly describe your procedure. A single page probably wouldnt cut it, though.

• This should be a designed document. Dont just provide a bulleted list of steps. Follow the document design principles weve gone over. Include ample, and accurate visual aids that are well placed. Dont forget labelling, white space, font considerations etc.

• This document should describe a procedure about how to do some type of physical task

How to hook something up, or how to run something etc. It should not be advice on

personal improvement or thoughts etc. (e.g. How to organize your time, or, How to be a nicer person etc.)

1-Identify your reader(s).

2. Describe your reader profile: background, attitude toward following instructions.

3. How much does your reader(s) know about the subject?

.4. Will you have to define any terms that your reader(s) may not understand?

5. What do you want your reader(s) to be able to do after reading the instructions or procedures? 6. What is the situation that led to the need for these instructions?

7. How will your reader(s) use these instructions? Will they need to be read every time, or will they be used only for reference?

8. What kinds of pictorials, if needed, will you use?

9. What kinds of formatting and page design strategies will you use to make the instructions easy to read?
