"Thinking about Standard American English (SAE) after this week's Grammar Lab, I now understand better how it's connected to power dynamics. I realized that SAE is often seen as the standard in school, work, and daily communication. Before this, I knew a bit about SAE, but I didn't fully grasp how much it influences language norms and power dynamics. Now, I see that the words we choose can affect how people see our credibility and authority. One important experience that changed how I see language and power happened during a work event. I noticed that people who used SAE were seen as more credible, and this affected the decisions made. This experience showed me how the words we use can have a big impact on how others see us, especially at work. In showing what I learned in the course about grammar and writing, I want to express my ideas clearly. I use the right sentence structure, punctuation, and make sure my writing makes sense. The course has given me tools to understand how to use language correctly and make sure my writing follows the rules while still saying what I mean."
