Data #1 for Chi-Square Analysis
Researchers studied the effect of an IV infiltration management program on a pediatric unit. The comparison group received routine management. The control group in this quasi-experimental study received the IV infiltration management program. The sample included 2894 IV insertions in the comparison group and 3651 in the experimental group. IV infiltration was measured on a scale of 0 to 4. The number of IV infiltrates in the comparison group was 127, with an infiltration rate of 4.4%. The number of IV infiltrates in the intervention group was 34, and the infiltration rate was 0.9%.
Infiltration incidence rate between comparison and experimental groups
Variables | Comparison Group | Experimental Group | x | p |
Number of IV insertions | 2894 | 3651 | 80.42 | <0.001 |
Number of infiltrates | 127 | 34 | ||
Infiltration Incidence rate (%) | 4.4 | 0.9 |
- Describe two of the three assumptions underlying the chi-square test
- Level of measurement needed
- Why the chi-square test was used
- Conclusions are based on the interpretation of the statistical analysis of the chi-square test. Is there a significant statistical difference in the infiltration rates? Please explain why or why not.
