Once you have attracted and selected the right talent, you must have solid practices in place to retain your talent through development and engagement. Your retention plan will be for one of the following businesses depending on the role that you have been working on throughout this course:
If you are working with the Shipping Operator or the Operations Manager role, then your business will be the Fulfillment Center If you are working with the Director of IT role, then your business will be Amazon Corporate.
Expectations and Requirements:

The goal of this plan is to ensure low turnover and retain talent through a variety of extrinsic methods and intrinsic motivators. Use this assignment to demonstrate your knowledge of the business and Amazon's organizational culture. For purposes of the plan, you should assume that compensation and benefits are market competitive and fairly administered, therefore, these areas do not need to be included in your plan. If you do include these areas, a full understanding of the topic will be assumed in the grading.
- For the purposes of this assignment, you should assume that the following data are true regarding the business unit you support:
- Over the last 6-12 months, regrettable turnover is trending up.
- On exit surveys one of the top reasons given for leaving is perceived lack of advancement opportunities
- Engagement scores have been trending downward over the last 24 months
- Your retention plan should be specific and contain the following elements:
- Additional data: What other data might you want to collect in order to more fully understand what is going on with employees in the business unit you support?
- Structure: Your plan should contain specific strategies you would use to influence some of the factors that drive employee engagement including:
- Onboarding
- Ongoing training & development
- Opportunities for advancement
- Quality of supervision
- Overall organizational culture
- Measures: Identify specific measures that you will use to evaluate the effectiveness of your plan. In other words, how will you know if your plan is working or not? Make sure that you include at least 3 measures.
