You will create a work breakdown structure (WBS) for the project described in the scope statement below. The scope statement identifies the project deliverables. Each deliverable must be broken down at least one additional level and have at least two work packages (smaller deliverables). The only exception will be the project administration deliverable (it will not be broken down any further). Your WBS must include all project and product deliverables. Once you are satisfied that all work has been included and the structure is complete, add WBS coding (1.0, 2.0, etc.) for each WBS component.

Project Scope Statement

The project is remodeling the backyard to make it more functional for outdoor living. Currently there is a small concrete patio and a fence. The family wants an inground pool for the kids, a grassy area to play games, and a large patio with plenty of room for a seating area and outdoor kitchen. They need some hardscape that includes the patio, garden walls for additional seating, and a path leading from the driveway to the pool deck and patio. The softscape will include grass, shrubs, and trees in garden areas surrounding the pool and patio. As this will be used for entertaining, there will be outdoor lighting on the patio, pathway lighting, and some uplighting in the trees. The family wants the yard to be low maintenance and requests a sprinkler system for the grass and a drip system for the gardens.

The family clearly has a vision for what they want. Youll need to provide them with a design plan that meets the homeowners association approval and city ordinances. This project includes all project management and oversight, design work, permitting, inspections, procurement of materials, demolition of existing landscape including hauling away debris, and construction and installation of design elements. Out-of-scope items are purchasing patio furniture and replacement of the existing fence.

This project will be completed in three phases, and the phases will reflect the WBS orientation. They are design and planning phase (1.0), demolition phase (2.0), and construction phase (3.0).
